Open Positions
Youth Minister (Full-Time)
The Church of the Holy Comforter (CHC) is seeking a Youth Minister. The Church of the Holy Comforter is a thriving Episcopal Church in Kenilworth, Illinois. Those looking to join our team should be detail-oriented, curious, and passionate about collaboration.
Our Youth Minister stewards programming for our children and young adults alongside a dedicated group of volunteers and with the support of the clergy team. Our mission is to “transform ourselves and the world through Love.” We know that continuing to achieve that mission relies on a strong program of Youth Formation.
Our Youth Formation is rooted in the Episcopal Tradition, and focuses more on growing mature Christians rather than telling our students what to think. Applicants should be prepared for challenging questions, playful games and activities, and robust service opportunities.
Our formation program includes:
Nursery care for 0-3 years of age on Sunday mornings - our Youth Minister coordinates and recruits nursery caregivers. We tend to have 3-5 nursery students per week.
Sunday school for pre-k through 5th grade in two classes (chapel and primary) - our Youth Minister teaches one of these classes, and coordinates volunteers and leadership for the other. We tend to have 5-10 students in each of the classes per week.
Youth Group for 5th-12th grade in two groups (middle and high) on Sunday evenings - our Youth Minister teaches and coordinates Youth Group. We tend to have 20-30 students across the two groups per week.
Preschool Chapel for students at All Things Bright and Beautiful, Holy Comforter’s preschool – our Youth Minister leads a chapel class for 25 minutes per week with each of the 5 classes in the preschool (approximately 12 students in each) in the Godly Play Model.
Young Adults group – our Youth Minister facilitates a young adults group once a month for the 20s/30s in the congregation. We tend to have 8-12 participants per month.
Other Responsibilities include:
Provide Pastoral Care for students (especially High Schoolers in the Youth Group)
Organize quarterly(ish) Social/Fellowship/Community building events for students
Support students by attending important life events (playoff game, school play etc.)
Organize quarterly(ish) service opportunities with Holy Comforter’s outreach partners
Lead confirmation classes biennially during Youth Group
Lead Holy Comforter’s Annual Mission Trip in partnership with Grace House on the Mountain
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, in a related field (Religious Studies, Teaching etc.) preferred.
Experience with children/children’s ministry.
Strong theological background and passion for sharing personal faith.
Experience with volunteer management and team building.
Comfort with Office Product Suite.
Experience with Godly Play curriculum encouraged.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Compensation:
We are seeking both ordained and lay applicants. Ordained applicants may be interested in a “Associate for Youth” or a curacy-style position. Ordained applicants can expect to be compensated in line with the Diocese of Chicago’s guidelines for clergy.
Lay salaries start at $55,000, not including robust pension and healthcare plans. Pay over that mark may be offered commensurate with experience and with attention to academic qualifications.
We expect our new Youth Minister to start Sunday, June 28th, 2026.
To apply, please contact our Rector, the Rev. Heath Howe at heathhowe@holycomforter.org. Please include your resume and a 250-500 word cover letter detailing why you’d be a good fit for this call at CHC.
