It is with true joy that we announce the election of Cathy Pratt to serve as our new Parish Treasurer. Cathy is the President of North Shore Community Bank, a part of the Wintrust Financial Corporation, having served in that position for some eight years, and previously was a senior Vice President at JP Morgan Chase for many years. Among numerous other community involvements, she served as the treasurer of her former parish, First Presbyterian Church in Evanston, and is the immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Wilmette. As Treasurer, she will also serve as a member of the Executive Committee of the Vestry. Welcome to your new ministry, Cathy; and thank you for offering your gifts and energy!

Fr. Wayne Johnson Memorial Service

As most in the parish are aware, Fr. Wayne Johnson, the Rector of Holy Comforter from 1971 to 1986, died on January 2 just before his 94th birthday. A funeral was held later that week at Trinity Church, Rock Island, Fr. Johnson?s spiritual home in retirement (and the church he served as Rector before coming to Holy Comforter). We are also going to have a celebration of his life here on Saturday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m., with interment in the columbarium and a reception following. Fr. Myers?who served under Fr. Johnson as both curate and associate?will return to preach. Following the liturgy and inurnment (interment in the Columbarium), there will be a reception in the Great Room hosted by our Bereavement Committee. All who knew and loved Fr. Johnson will surely want to attend if possible, and to greet Marie and their family; so please make a special point to add this date to your schedules.

Youth Sunday/Mother's Day/Recognition Sunday

This coming Sunday, we will observe a very special day when we will celebrate both the youth of the parish and Mother?s Day at the 9:00 Eucharist. On that day, young people will fill all of their normal liturgical roles?as greeters, lector, intercessor, videographer?but we will also be blessed to welcome a youth preacher, Patrick O?Dea. Patrick, who is a junior at Loyola Academy, will preach at both the 9:00 and 11:15 Eucharists. And, to top it all off, our Children?s Choir and Youth Choir will also sing at the 9:00 liturgy. Following the service, we will gather in the Great Room for a special reception, during which we will honor all teachers and choristers. The 12th promises to be a lively, lovely, joyous day for all, as we honor all Mothers and our young people.

Choir To Sing At St. James Cathedral

Our Adult Choir will join with the choir of St. James Cathedral in downtown Chicago for a Festive Evensong at 4:00. St. James is located at the corner of Huron and Rush Streets, and is a unique example of the architecture of the mid-Victorian era (part of the building survived the Chicago Fire of 1871). Adult Forum Option For Sunday April 28

This Sunday, we will once again offer a couple of different ?tracks? for the Adult Forum hour. As was the case three weeks ago, those interested in discussing how to raise faithful children and grandchildren in this culture and area will divide, with women staying in the Great Room, and men gathering in the Library. For those wishing something different. Fr. Hardman will lead a discussion on "Easter Means a Second Chance," using the movie Field of Dreams as a springboard. This discussion will occur in the "sofa room" on the second floor above the offices.

Kids Against Hunger

On April 13, Holy Comforter participated in the community wide volunteer event to package 100,000 meals for hungry people in Nicaragua and Local Food Pantries. Our team packaged 2,195 meals during the 8:30 to 10:30 am shift at the Winnetka Community House. This was the third year we have participated in this event.
