Celtic Contemplative Service

by Fr. Chris Hardman

On October 5th, at the 9:00 am service, we will hold the first of two contemplative services this fall. (The second will be on November 9th.) This Celtic Contemplative service will incorporate Scottish and Irish music, a worship space transformed by light, and an inner spaciousness that will open us to an awareness of God's healing presence in our midst.

We live in a very stress-filled and noisy world. Our iPads, iPods, and iPhones are on 24 hours a day. Seeing people walking down the street with their heads down, staring into a screen, has become a sign of our times. In one way, we seem to be more connected than ever, but in another way we seem more disconnected. We rush from event to event, appointment to appointment and never have time to stop and really notice where we are. We don't appreciate the present moment because we are always worried about the past or anxious about the future.

This Contemplative Service is designed to help us slow down and become present to the moment. It is intended to help us reconnect with God, each other, and the world. It will help you experience the light that is from the beginning, the light that enlightens everyone, the light in us and all around us if we would only stop and look.

One service is not likely to change the world. But, perhaps, it will stir something inside you, something good; something that will lead you to take hold of the light more purposefully and more powerfully. That is our hope. And, further, we hope that you will tell others about this service, because we plan to hold them again this winter at 5:00 pm.
