Ways You Can Support Our Teens

by Charlotte Long, Director of Youth Ministry

I keep being delighted by the members of the Holy Comforter community who "on paper" may have very little connection to our youth, and yet continue to give of themselves and their time and their donations to allow our youth program to thrive and expand. Because of you, the congregation of Holy Comforter, our 7th and 8th graders raised over $5,000 for Heifer Project International. Because of you, the 2013 High Schoolers went to Joplin, MO, for a service trip. And it is because of you that we will send them to Kentucky this June.

Our trip will be organized by a Christian, non-profit called Appalachian Service Project, which focuses on making homes "warmer, safer, dryer" in some of the most impoverished counties in the Appalachian Mountain Region. ASP has a special place in my heart, as it was the organization that committed me to service projects when I was in High School. I can't wait to share this experience with our Youth Group this summer.

Here are some upcoming opportunities that need your
attendance and help!

•Buy a cookie jar mix (or two, or three...they make excellent gifts!) at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner on March 4th at 5:30 p.m.! The High School kids will be making the pancakes and hosting the event, a well-loved Holy Comforter tradition. Families of all shapes and sizes are invited to eat with us! Breakfast for dinner, the best!

•Attend the Youth-led Adult Forum on March 16th to hear about why service trips are important, and to listen to kids who have gone on trips in past years talk about their experiences! I hope every year to make sure our community hears from the Youth about these trips. It is some of the most important work we can do and you deserve to hear about who you are supporting and how your giving does God's work.

•Bring your friends to Holy Comforter's Chili/Beer/March Madness NCAA Event on March 20th and bid on some excellent silent auction items that directly benefit our trip to Kentucky! While the main purpose will be fellowship surrounding the games, we hope you will eat, drink and give generously!

Thanks for taking the time to support us! And hope to see y'all at all these fun events
