Lessons And Carrols

On Sunday afternoon, December 8, the adult choir and youth choir of Holy Comforter will present the beautiful and traditional Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent. This liturgy, first developed about 130 years ago by Edward White Benson, then Bishop of Truro in England (and originally designed to keep men out of the pubs on Christmas Eve!), offers a moving journey from the prophetic anticipation of the coming of the Messiah through the birth of the Christ, and features a series of scriptural passages interspersed with anthems by one of the choirs, as well as familiar hymns and carols sung by the entire congregation. A simple reception will follow in the parlor. Lessons and Carols is a perfect way to walk the road of Advent and to prepare for the Incarnation.
