Holiday Outreach Opportunities

Philippine Typhoon Relief: We are all aware by now of the massive typhoon that devastated the Philippines.   If you would like to provide support for relief efforts, please send in or drop off a check, with the memo section indicating that the check is for typhoon relief.  Or if you would like to make a donation directly to Episcopal Relief and Development, the compassion arm of the national Episcopal Church, please go to this web site.  Your donation to the ERD Disaster Response Fund will help communities in the Philippines get critical assistance.  From now until December 6th, donations to any fund will be matched by ERD to the Global Needs Fund, up to $500,000. Thank you for your compassion.

Jesse Tree: As we have for many years, Holy Comforter will enjoy the experience this December of having a "Jesse Tree."  We are encouraging people to take a tag from the tree in order to buy a present for a child from Holy Family School or a family or individual at Connections for the Homeless.  We are being asked to provide gifts for a record number of people this year, with December 12 as the deadline for the presents to be returned to the church parlor.  Gifts for individuals at Connections should not be wrapped (with a limit of $50 per gift), whereas gifts for the Holy Family students (limit of $25 per gift) should be wrapped.  Confused?  Just check the tag(s) you take from the tree, or ask someone in the church office!

Good News Partner Christmas Store: Join with your Holy Comforter family and help spread some holiday cheer on Saturday, December 14! We will meet at CHC at noon to board the bus down to GNP;  we should return by 3 p.m.. Twelve spots have been reserved for us in each of the following departments: Café, Child Care, and Shopping. Please contact Jill Klusendorf or at 847-251-6120, ext. 111 to sign up. If you are unable to make the CHC reserved time slot, please visit for other times to help out.

Misericordia Bakery: Fr. George Hull is leading a group down to Misericordia on December 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, to work in the bakery.  There are currently 7 slots available to us, but we can add more if interest is higher!  Please contact either Fr. Hull or Jill Klusendorf.
