A Gift From Lloyd And Anne Williams

Our New Steinway Piano

by The Rev. Dr. Jason Parkin, Rector

Holy Comforter has been deeply blessed by the generosity of long-time parishioners Lloyd and Anne Williams, for they recently donated their 1926 model M Steinway studio grand piano to the parish!

The piano-pictured here-was purchased by Lloyd's grandparents in 1926 straight from the Steinway Company, and is in the rather rare Louis XV style, with ornate legs and scrollwork, and a pedalboard in the shape of a lyre. The instrument has been in the Williams family for its entire life, and has been cared for lovingly for those nearly 90 years, having been serviced by Steinway artisans. As you can see, the piano is a rich mahogany; and it enjoys crisp "action" and a strong, even sound from the lowest notes to the highest tones. This model M piano is 5'7" in length, and both looks and sounds as if it were made for our Great Room, where it will be used for a variety of purposes and events (first among these, of course, will be the annual Christmas Cocoa and Carols Sing-a-long on December 22).

Plans are underway for a dedicatory recital and reception in February to give thanks for our new piano, and to express our gratitude for the Williams' remarkable thoughtfulness. However, we have decided not to bring in an outside artist to play the recital, but, rather, to seek out pianists of all ages and abilities to play one or two pieces each. So whether you are a six-year-old just starting out, a teenager currently studying, or a more experienced keyboardist willing to offer your gifts for this fun Sunday afternoon event, please contact Fr. Jason at jlparkin@holycomforter.org or 847/251-6120 (seriously, we're not just looking for accomplished pianists: we want all ages and levels represented!)

Thank you, Anne and Lloyd, for your marvelous gift! This beautiful instrument will adorn our fellowship and ministry of music to the glory of God for decades to come.
