Seasonal Outreach Ministries
In addition to our ongoing hands-on outreach activities, the parish undertakes several seasonal programs that reach out to and care for the greater community during the holiday seasons.
These are not your traditional Easter baskets! The parish provides laundry baskets which parishioners fill with household supplies, toiletries and basic necessities. The baskets are decoratively wrapped and donated to
Cathedral Shelter. Last Easter, we donated over 100 filled baskets which were distributed on Mother's Day to women supported by Cathedral Shelter. The notes of thanks from the families who received our donations made us aware of how the best gifts are those given from the heart.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Each November the parish collects Thanksgiving dinner items and other foodstuffs which are then donated to the Primo Center for Women and Children. Carloads of turkeys, canned goods, fresh fruits and vegetables are delivered annually to the Primo Center and then distributed to families in Chicago's Garfield neighborhood. Every year, gifts to our Jesse Tree are given to families supported by Connections for the Homeless, an organization in Evanston that provides housing, employment and supportive services to move individuals and families out of the shadow of homelessness. To insure that all families have a merry Christmas, a general wish list includes gifts for all family members - toys, books, clothing, small household items.
