Meet Our Rector
The Rev. Dr. Jason Lloyd Parkin became the ninth Rector of Church of the Holy Comforter on March 1, 2011.
Father Parkin and his wife, Jan, have three grown children: Jeremy, Julia, and Jeffrey. Jeremy is a classically trained singer who just moved to Chicago after graduate school in London; Julia is a 6th grade teacher in Skokie; and Jeff is a senior at DePaul University in Chicago. Before the Parkins' move to Kenilworth, Jan was the Executive Director of Episcopal Charities in the Diocese of California, and a Canon of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco.
Father Parkin holds a Bachelor's degree in Music from the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University, a Master's in Divinity from Nashotah House Theological Seminary, and a Doctor in Ministry from Seabury-Western. He was ordained as a deacon and a priest in the Diocese of Chicago. He served as Assistant to the Rector at Grace Church, Hinsdale, from 1985 to 1987; as Associate Rector at Holy Comforter, Kenilworth, from 1987 to 1991; as Rector of Trinity Church, Iowa City, from 1991 to 2000; and as Rector of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, San Francisco, from 2000 until early in 2011. Prior to ordination, Fr. Jason was a professional musician, performing as a soloist with such ensembles as the Chicago and Boston Symphonies, and serving as a coach and accompanist, in addition to three years as a high school music teacher. A former boy soprano who sang under such conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Benjamin Britten, and David Willcocks while still a very young man, he was also one of the three singers for the famous Armour Hot Dog television commercials of the early 1970s!
