WHAM: We Have A Mission

There is no question that high school students are busy:  school days that can begin as early at 6:30 a.m.,  extra curricular sports, drama or music, tutoring, homework. And somehow they might fit in a few meals a day and maybe a fleeting conversation with their parents.  Their free time, as little as it may be, is very precious to them.  To encourage participation, WHAM’s Sunday morning meetings are an informal time for social interaction, relaxation and reflection, as we support the spiritual, mental and physical well-being of our teens.

Meetings begin with prayer, and discussions focus on issues of young adulthood and understanding their role in God's mission and the Church's ministry.  While having fun is an important component of any youth group, a youth group must be grounded in Christ’s teachings. THE MESSAGE, a contemporary version of the Bible, says it simply:

"Take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating, going-to-school, and walking-around life - and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out.”
(Romans 12:1-2).

That is our goal - to help our teens think with their hearts, minds and souls, and prepare them to be responsible, productive young adults who will well-represent their Christian faith to the world.  WHAM’s mission trip is the the highlight of this youth group.

Each member of WHAM must have on file an off-campus travel permission form and updated medical card before he/she is permitted to attend any off-site events. Please print, sign and complete, and return the 2011-2012 Permission Form to the parish office.
