The Feast of Pentecost: June 4

The Feast of Pentecost is the 50th day of the Easter Season, and is our own parish Feast Day. Pentecost is one of the seven Principal Feasts of the Church year, and the day traditionally deemed as the birthday of the Christian community. Even more, as a parish dedicated to the Holy Comforter, Pentecost is OUR parish birthday.

This year, we will be blessed to welcome again the Rt. Rev. Jeffrey Lee, Bishop of Chicago, who will be present for all three Eucharists to preach and celebrate. Bp. Lee is a wonderful preacher, a very engaging liturgical presence, and a warm, caring pastor, and we are truly privileged that, in his frenetic schedule, he is able to join us for Pentecost.

The 8:00 and 9:00 Eucharists will follow their traditional liturgical format, with Holy Baptism being celebrated at the 9:00 service. Coffee hour will follow the 8:00 in the parlor, and there will be a baptismal reception-to which all re invited-in the Great Hall following the second liturgy. Confirmation of our 18 7th and 8th grade students will take place at the 11:15 liturgy, followed by a party for the young people and their families and friends in the Great Hall.  (If you normally attend the 11:15 Eucharist, please consider coming to 9:00 that morning so that we can "balance out" the services and allow for plenty of room for the Confirmands' families and friends.  Thank you for your consideration.)
If you read or speak a foreign language, and would like to take part in a polyglot recitation of the story of the first Pentecost (Acts 2:1-11), please contact Fr. Jason, who will gladly put you to work that morning during one of the services. And don't forget to wear red in honor of the color of Pentecost. Please join us to welcome our Bishop to Holy Comforter, to welcome a new brother into the household of God, and to support our teenagers as they are confirmed!
