THE DOVE October 2010

Extra! Extra! Read All About It . . .

Police are currently investigating this horrific crime and are gathering their clues.  Prime suspects include:

  • Father Myers - Did he change his mind about retiring?
  • Father Hardman - Did he really want the job?
  • Steve Crawford - Did his top candidate lose out?
  • Lili Duquette - Has she enjoyed being Succession Co-Chair so much she can't bear the thought of it being over?
  • Bob Patin - Did the thought of losing his beloved rector lead to murder?

Join us on Friday, October 22, when the real culprit will be revealed! Reservations are required for our annual Fall Fellowship Dinner.  RSVP here>>>

Confirmation Mentors

Our new confirmation program, Confirm not Conform, invites and encourages our youth to explore their faith by asking questions, challenging assumptions and discovering what they truly believe. Thirteen students are currently enrolled in the program which meets weekly; a second session will begin in January for 7th grade students.

Each confirmand will have a mentor from the parish - someone who will listen to their questions, share their story and help the student discover the true power of Christian community. We gratefully acknowledge the mentors for the fall session: Bob Burke, Lynn Collins, Brooks Crankshaw, Mary Fields, Nancy McIndoe, Kristin Miller, Mike Murphy, Carol Olson, Tim Stutzman, Jackie Thompson and Dick Wood.  Please keep the Confirmation mentors in your prayers as they help prepare our young people for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

 Celebration Sunday

The Canvass Committee recently met to review this past year and set goals for 2011. As our mission and goals were discussed, the focus was on both the realities of the current economic environment as well as the needs and opportunities for the coming year. The past three years have been a roller coaster both emotionally and economically for everyone. We are grateful that Holy Comforter has made it through these times as a healthy and vibrant parish. We are excited for the year ahead with a full calendar of programs and activities, as well as the many changes that will come with the appointment of our ninth Rector.

Canvass information will be mailed early this month.  Please review the materials and prayerfully consider your 2011 pledge to the parish.  On Celebration Sunday, October 31, please come to the altar to join with your fellow parishioners in support of our church.

Parish Service Project

Each year, we reach out to the greater community with our hearts and hands, providing assitance to an organization in need of "unskilled" labor.  On Saturday, November 13, we will again work with Good News Partners in the Rogers Park neighborhood, painting, cleaning and doing minor repairs.  Although Good News Partners has its own maintenance crew, there are many projects that need special attention due to the amount of labor entailed or lack of funding for supplies. Our parish assists with these projects, providing financial support, all materials and supplies, and most importantly the gift of our time and talents.  Registration is required; ages 12 to adult.  Register here>>>
