The Power of Music

by  Derek Nickels, Director of Music

Music has always been a powerful force, tapping our emotions that range from one extreme to another. Music is also a healing force that transcends all human boundaries and differences, for it speaks directly to our souls. In our fast-paced society where we are all so stressed out from all of the forces around us, music is a wonderful opportunity of spiritual healing. For that reason alone, music is a very powerful equalizing force. We all have souls regardless of our differences that need the nourishing and healing touch of music.

In order for the music at Holy Comforter to be powerful and exciting, we need you. If you sing, you are more than welcome to join the choir. Everyone, including high school students, is welcome to join the Adult Choir. There is no audition required, just simply a desire to sing. We rehearse our anthems and hymns on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m. with fun and fellowship included. Our Junior and Youth Choirs also rehearse Thursday afternoons as well: 3:50 to 4:30 for the Junior Choir and 5:30 to 6:30 for the Youth Choir.

Our special musical offerings of Advent Lessons and Carols in December and Lenten Evensong this coming February will be opportunities for you to join us for a special occasion. If you have other musical talents and play an instrument, I would love to hear from you. It would be wonderful to be able to include our congregational talents from time to time at the 9:00 service.
