Adult Forum November 2016

by Chris Hardman

We have a really terrific Adult Forum schedule for November. It begins with a baptismal reception on November 6th, and ends with an intergenerational session on the 27th, the beginning of Advent. In between we have Dr. Adam Miglio revealing some important archeological discoveries during the time of Jesus or Paul and Mr. Joel Hamernick sharing with us his unique experience of working for justice on the south side of Chicago.

Dr. Miglio needs no introduction. He has been with us three times already this fall with some of the most interesting and thought-provoking subjects we have encountered at our forum. This last presentation will be on the New Testament time period focusing on either Jesus or Paul.

Joel Hamernick comes to us through our parishioner, Gregg Anderson. Joel is the Executive Director of Sunshine Gospel Ministries, a 110-year-old urban ministry in Chicago, where he has been on staff since 1999. He and his wife, Paula, along with their seven children, have been living in the Woodlawn Community on the south side of Chicago for a number of years. Joel has some very interesting insights on the people of the area and their unique situation and problems. He has an excellent TED talk online that helps one see what justice might look like in that area. This will be an appropriate continuation of previous discussions about race with Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows.

November 6th: Baptismal Reception

November 13th: Dr. Adam Miglio's presentation on Jesus or Paul

November 20th: Joel Hamernick, Executive Director of Sunshine Gospel Ministries

November 27th: An Advent Intergenerational extravaganza

This promises to be a wonderful learning time for us all. Don't miss out.
