AIM: Actions in Motion
AIM acknowledges that 8th grade is a unique and important time in the growth and development of our young teens. They are eager to be done with elementary school, yet they are anxious about entry into the world of high school. This new youth group has been developed specifically for this age group. The goal of AIM is to help students through this transition, and be a safe and positive respite to discuss issues affecting them . . . at home, in school, and throughout the greater community.AIM’s Sunday morning meetings focus on character building and discovering - and using - their gifts and talents.
Learning about character is a great way to help students start the process of becoming a leader. What are the Godly characters of a good leader and how do we apply them to everyday life? Together they will look at four attributes that represent attitudes reflective of God’s influence in our lives: love, joy, peace and patience. Then they will examine actions that flow out of a life devoted to God: kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Each lesson includes a clip from a feature film or TV show, a true life story and a Bible reference.
The latter part of the year will be devoted to discovering gifts and talents and learning how to use them. Doing so is an important and an affirming part of the process of discovering who they are how and how they can contribute to their family, church, community and world. Students will discover their gifts by interacting with others, reflecting on self-discovery questions, and journaling.
Students will be motivated to use their leadership skills and newly-discovered gifts and talents as they prepare for their mission trip and their lives as young Christian adults.
Each member of AIM must have on file an off-campus travel permission form and updated medical card before he/she is permitted to attend any off-site events. Please print, sign and complete, and return the 2011-2012 Permission Form to the parish office.
